Norrtälje isn’t overflowing with hotels and there’s currently 4 different ones in the town since Berglings Boutique Hotell closed earlier this year. But the ones it does have are quite different from each other which means that you can still find something that fits your needs.
My personal favorite is Åtellet located next to the harbor in the town center, while Pensionat Granparken is a charming option if you prefer a quieter stay with lots of character.
I’ve put together a list of the town’s hotels along with my own impressions and tips on when I think each one is the best choice.

Åtellet
Åtellet is the best option if you want to stay in the town center and have everything within walking distance. The hotel is housed in an older building but was renovated fairly recently, so the rooms are modern and comfortable while still keeping some character. The hotel has a clear focus on the archipelago and the sea, which makes it a great choice if you want the full northern Stockholm archipelago experience.
The hotel has a sauna and the restaurant serves dishes inspired by the sea with lots of fish and seafood. One of my favorite parts is the big outdoor terrace facing Norrtäljeån. It’s a popular hangout for locals and if you stay here, you shouldn’t miss having a drink before dinner.

Pensionat Granparken
Pensionat Granparken is a turn-of-the-century house decorated in a cozy, country style. It feels more like staying in someone’s home than at a hotel, which is exactly the point. If you like a more personal atmosphere in a quiet setting, this is the place for you.
It sits on a hill just above Societetsparken, about a 10-minute walk from the harbor. The surrounding area is mostly residential which makes it peaceful, although there’s a mini-golf course just across the street. Another benefit of staying here is the short distance to Kärleksudden and Borgmästarholmen if you feel like a swim or a walk in nature.
The rooms are large, bright, and decorated in a turn-of-the-century style, which adds to the cozy, home-like atmosphere. The staff are also very friendly and can help you plan trips or give you tips on activities and trips in Norrtälje.
All in all, it’s a charming and great-value alternative to Åtellet, if you still want to be close to the center but prefer a calmer spot.

Hotell Roslagen
Hotell Roslagen is located at the southern entrance to Norrtälje, next to the E18 highway and about 1.5 kilometers from the town center. It sits right next to McDonald’s and the Campus Roslagen bus stop, which makes it practical if you want easy connections into town or if you’re heading south towards places like Yxlan and Blidö.
The surrounding area isn’t that exciting with a lrage parking lot and the highway next to it. It’s also far away from the city center so there’s nothing really to do and the hotel is viewed more as a business hotel than a leisure one.
But the rooms are fresh, modern and the breakfast buffet is generous with plenty of bread, cold cuts, vegetables, and hot drinks. A big bonus is that dinner is included in your stay Monday through Thursday, which is unique among the hotels in Norrtälje.
Another advantage is that Hotell Roslagen is the only hotel in town with a gym. So when you’re staying there you’ll get free access to the Actic gym in the same building with a sauna, machines, and free weights.

Vandrahemmet Hvilan
Vandrarhemmet Hvilan is a hostel in a quiet residential area near Norrtälje Hospital. It’s run by a friend’s mom and to me it’s the best budget option in town. It’s especially practical if you’re planning to hike Roslagsleden, since the starting point for stage 8 is only about a 10-minute walk away. It also a great fit if you’re passing through Roslagen and need a simple, affordable place to stay for the night.
The rooms are simply furnished and there’s a kitchen where you can cook your own food. One thing that’s good to know is that breakfast isn’t included, but that’s usually not a problem. The hostel is close to Norrtälje’s biggest supermarket where you can find a good selection of ready-made and other breakfast options from their bakery . There’s also a restaurant inside the supermarket where I used to eat when I worked nearby. The food is really good if you want a proper meal for lunch or dinner.
